Enrofloxacin Induced Oxidative Stress and Its Amelioration with Antioxidants in Liver Homogenates of Broilers

چکیده
The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of enrofloxacin induced oxidative stress in liver homogenates of broiler chickens. Total fifty broiler chickens divided into five groups at the age of day 38 were used for this study. Oxidative stress was produced in the chickens with Enrofloxacin at an oral dose of 10 mg/kg b.w. In Enrofloxacin (10 mg/kg b.w) treated group, there was a significant elevation in the oxidative biomarkers like superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), reduced glutathione (GSH) and marked increase in lipid peroxidation (MDA) of liver homogenates. Treatment with either alpha-lipoic acid (100 mg/kg b.w) or vitamin E (100 mg/kg b.w) significantly restored the antioxidant status in liver homogenates. Whereas, co-treatment of alpha-lipoic acid (100 mg/kg b.w) and vitamin E (100 mg/kg b.w) had significantly restored the antioxidant parameters which are comparable with the normal control birds. Thus the results of this study suggest that enrofloxacin induced oxidative stress in broilers at the therapeutic doses can be effectively ameliorated by treating with vitamin E and alpha-lipoic acid combination than treating with either of these drugs alone. *Corresponding author: E-mail: [email protected] Part of M.V.Sc. Effect of Bioflavonoid Quercetin on Endotoxin-Induced Hepatotoxicity and Oxidative Stress in Rat Liver
Septicaemia caused by gram-negative pathogens is a dangerous infection which is associated with high incidence of liver dysfunction. The severe and acute hepatotoxicity is presumably due to massive release of endotoxin into systemic circulation after bacterial killing. The direct toxic effect of endotoxin is probably due to the increased production of reactive oxygen intermediates as O 2 - , p...
متن کاملCaptopril Attenuates Diazinon-Induced Oxidative Stress: A Subchronic Study in Rats
Background: Diazinon (DZN) is an organophosphate pesticide commonly used for pest control in agriculture. It may engender a variety of negative effects in non-target species, including humans and animals. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the ameliorative properties of captopril (CAP), as a thiol containing an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, against DZN-induced oxidati...
متن کاملThymoquinone restores liver fibrosis and improves oxidative stress status in a lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation model in rats
Objective: Liver fibrosis is the primary sign of chronic liver injury induced by various causes. Thymoquinone (TQ) is the major ingredient of Nigella sativa with several beneficial effects on the body. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of TQ on liver fibrosis in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in male rats. Materials and methods: Fifty male Wistar rats wer...
متن کاملOral Supplementation of ?-Carotene Significantly Ameliorates Testicular Oxidative Stress in the Streptozotocin-Diabetic Rat
Background Our recent findings have shown that the rat testis is subjected to significant oxidative stress during the early phase of diabetes induced by Streptozotocin (STZ). In the present study, we have investigated whether oral supplementation of β-carotene (BC) to pubertal rats would provide protection against diabetes associated oxidative stress in testis and liver. متن کاملLactobacillus plantarum MYS6 Ameliorates Fumonisin B1-Induced Hepatorenal Damage in Broilers
Fumonisin B1 (FB1), a mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species is a predominant Group 2B carcinogen occurring in maize and maize-based poultry feeds. It is shown to be nephrotoxic, hepatotoxic, neurotoxic, and immunosuppressing in animals. In this study, we report the ameliorating effects of a probiotic strain, Lactobacillus plantarum MYS6 on FB1-induced toxicity and oxidative damage in broilers....
